New Greenpeace vessel design by Dykstra Naval Architects Following the success of the Greenpeace 58 meter sailing vessel “Rainbow Warrior III”, Greenpeace International has again teamed up with Dykstra Naval Architects for the groundbreaking design of a new 75m sailing vessel.Dykstra Naval Architects partnered with Longitude Engineering for the innovative system design and alternate fuels. Greenpeace International has selected Freire Shipyard - C.N.P.FREIRE, S.A from Vigo, Spain for this ambitious project after an exhaustive tender process owing to their ability and commitment to meeting the highest technical, environmental, sustainability, and human rights standards. We expect the new ship to start campaigning for a better world in 2027. At a time where the maritime industry is under increasing pressure to get its act together in terms of emissions reduction, the new ship will lead the way by showing how a smart combination of green technologies can power high seas shipping. With more than 2000 sqm of sails supporting energy regeneration on board, battery packs and solar panels, the new Greenpeace ship will optimally harness the power of the wind and the sun. It will also be equipped with innovative power systems that will allow us to use green hydrogen and e-methanol to cover the remaining energy demand. #newdesign #navalarchitecture #emissionreduction #greentechnologies #ship #sailing #windpower #greenpeaceinternational #longitudeengineering #freireshipyard #dykstranavalarchitects

This type of green "smart surface" solution should be in *every* neighborhood and community ... not just confined to or made exclusive for wealthier and/or predominantly white neighborhoods and communities. This should be ubiquitous - especially considering the grave climate and pollution threats we face - not uncommon

After what feels like a very long winter, Spring is finally here. Lighter days, warmer weather and the sound of bird songs has made us look back fondly at a Marina project in the most stunning setting – the banks of the Hamble Estuary. Nesting birds within an estuary means that there is a very limited window of opportunity for a project to be built, and for Hamble Yacht Services, Environmental Officers and the Local Authority were keen that the process should be a short as possible and at just the right time. Modulek Operations Director Brian Pester talks about how modular construction can provide a solution to these very short windows of opportunity and Director at Hamble Yacht Services Tim Yetman explains how this enabled the build to go ahead on such an environmentally sensitive site.Watch our video to see how we tackled environmental challenges and used modular construction to bring this project to life on the scenic Hamble Estuary. Last week, McKay Engineering Manager, Andreas Zaugg, and McKay USA Business Development Manager, Captain Jim Bandy, attended the International WorkBoat Show in New Orleans. This three-day event focused on marine technology and provided an incredible opportunity for Andreas and Jim to engage in discussions about technological advancements in shipbuilding. With a specific emphasis on alternative fuels and meeting the latest green standards, the conference presented a perfect platform for McKay to showcase our expertise in the field. One session that captivated our team was the "Beyond Buzzwords for Sustainability in Shipyard and Port Operations." which addressed the need to retrofit existing ships with new technologies for greater sustainability, while highlighting the importance of integrating sustainability into the design and construction of new ships - something McKay, in partnership with Wellington Electric Boat Building Company, has already successfully achieved through the launch of Wellington's Ika Rere electric ferry, the first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. The conference proved to be a fantastic opportunity for McKay to further our conversations about marine technology solutions in the United States, while providing us with a valuable opportunity to connect and network with marine architects, boatbuilders, shipyards, and many other incredible individuals within the industry.McKay is excited to continue our efforts in contributing to the future of the marine industry and being recognised as a global leader in the industry.#maritime #maritimeindustry #marine #marinetechnology #marinetechnology #shipbuilding #boatbuilding #engineering #electricalengineering #sustainability #alternativefuels
