Food For Thought: DeTOXify with a pinch of salt
We hear the call: cleanse your palates, eliminate the sugars, banish the processed foods, expel the caffeine and alcohol, repel the noxious behavior and negativity , all in the name of DeToxicity! Oh lordie! We need Linda Blair to help us absorb or rather cast out these evil demons from our flesh so that we may live well! This our friends is a tall, venti order.
As grown (and we mean grown) adults, we still feel the finger wagging in our face, “Wait an hour after eating before you go swimming or you’ll cramp”, “Drinking coffee stunts your growth”, “You’ll go blind if you ….” All of these parental phrases were designed to deter our less than stellar behavior. Funny thing, cramping is now a good excuse not to get into a bathing suit, we are shrinking and our eye sight is definitely deteriorating. Hmmm.
The Co-Rockers are becoming increasingly concerned with our spirits and we mean that literally and figuratively! So what’s the point? Ignore the outstretched finger and take it all with a healthy grain of Himalayan pink sea salt. In order to live your “best” life, do it your way and if that includes two all beef patties (make it veggie!), special sauce, lettuce, non-dairy cheese, pickles, onions and no bun ….we salute you! Remember, what’s good for the Terri, may not be good for the Nanci. As we consider how to remove the toxicity that we feel is present in our lives, we offer this advice: Pay attention to how you feel, take a deep breath, don’t berate yourself for that J.P. Licks peanut butter cookies and cream ice cream or that Boulevardier (ehem, Nanci), enjoy your next Coffee Klatsch and Happy Hour and accept each other’s lifestyle without judgment. That, our friends, is how you remove toxicity.
After a long day in the kitchen, two disheveled and exasperated Co-Rockers walk into a bar. Co-Rocker 1 asks for a cold glass of seltzer, Co-Rocker 2 asks for whiskey straight up. The bartender says, on the rocks or neat? The two Co-Rockers point their fingers at one another and reply, “Both!”
STEPPING OUT WITH THE CO-ROCKERS: Baby it’s cold inside!
Speaking of shedding and cleansing, the Co-Rockers ditched their forks and spoons in exchange for a visit to the Kingdom of Arandale spa. Over the years we’ve embraced opportunities to explore the dimensions of wellness: physical, social, emotional, occupational and spiritual growth to enhance longevity and fulfillment. It turns out that Elsa had the right idea all along and Physical Sports Therapists have long known the benefits of cold therapy: reduction of muscle soreness and inflammation, and improvement of metabolism and mood. These “spas” that run hot and cold, offer a new spin on “cold showers” to help rejuvenate, revive and renew! Both Frost & Float and Modern Wellness offer differening experiences, are perfect for groups and a great jumpstart your wellness journey whether it’s to relax, revive or recover.
Use code “MONDAY MORSELS” or mention the Co-Rockers to grab 10% off your next treatment at Frost & Float Spa and Modern Wellness! Lest you think we are receiving a treatment or a discount for this promo push, you’d be wrong - that’s just cold!
Frost & Float Spa, Newton
The Bastianelli Family was ahead of the curve, recognizing the need for alternative therapies to help with healing, whether it’s a chronic illness, sports injury, a way to enhance energy or boost the immune system. Frost & Float offers “whole body cryo in an ergonomically shaped cryosauna where your body is exposed to a liquid nitrogen mist with an average temperature of -185” Talk about a human popsicle! If you are a literal snowbird, you’ll likely prefer the infrared sauna (sweat out those toxins), float therapy (think relaxing, buoyant, dark, salt water pod) compression therapy (get that blood moving) and individualized treatments. Terri crushes the standing cryotherapy machine without wincing! We highly recommend a cryo facial post sauna, a temporary face lift that leaves your skin taut and glowing for several hours!
A postcard at a local eatery piqued our interest and pointed us to this spa offering a “journey into Modern Wellness”. The menu encourages you to stick around for a few hours with access to various experiences. Our journey began with 20 minutes in the salt room, followed by 20 minutes in infrared sauna, then 3 minutes (ok really 1 minute 20 seconds) in the cold ass tub, followed by 20 minutes in the hot tub, back in the frigid pond (we mean tub) then a 20 minute eucalyptus steam and one more cold plunge . This wellness journey ended with our legs wrapped in compression pants, in zero g position and guided meditation. Let’s just say it was all super cool!

THE ROCKIN’ BANDWAGON: Gut wrenching good food
What’s good for the gut, is good for the Co-Rockers. We are calling out three local New England Businesses that have created products that protect the gut from toxic bacteria and promote a healthy digestive system!
Ginger Gems: We know GG’s momma, Susanne Greelish. She’s created this fabulous delicious candied treat that’s not only delicious but truly kicks your gut into gear! If you love ginger, these gems are a diamond in the gut!
Pigeon Cove Ferments Kombucha We came across these folks at a local farmer’s market. We haven’t tried their kombucha, but Nanci loves the ginger beet kraut, a perfect compliment to any meal, great salad topping or simply on its own. Btw, we’ve just learned that PC has a taproom in Gloucester, MA that offers hard kombucha, kombucha, fermented tea and kraut. Time to fly the coop and head to the Cove!
Sidehill Farm, Hawley, MA: Yo Gurt Girls! Sidehill Farm’s dairy cows are grass fed on a certified organic pasture providing a balanced diet for the cows and in turn creating “smooth, delicious, high-protein milk…and a blend of high pro-biotic cultures” for us! No sugar, local, and all natural! Slide on over Chobani, there’s a new yogurt in town!
SOMETHING TO CHEW ON!
Let it Go, sung by Adele Dazeem (aka Idina Menzel)
Let it go, let it go
Can't hold it back anymore
Let it go, let it go
Turn away and slam the door
I don't care what they're going to say
Let the storm rage on
The cold never bothered me anyway
AND REMEMBER, ENJOY EVERY MORSEL! XOXO THE CO-ROCKERS
